Job description

Job Summary:

Provides expertise in online course development at FNU. Collaborates with the faculty, Academic Affairs, and others to develop online courses and programs and explore new technologies for effective learning formats. Supports the development of continuing education opportunities that align with the university's mission. Leads in the development of instructional content using the ADDIE Model.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Leads in the application of the principles of student learning and pedagogy in the development of programmatic content appropriate to the graduate nursing curriculum.
• Drives the instructional design and development process through collaboration with faculty in the use of technology to enhance pedagogy and improve student learning.
• Provides team-based leadership and project management in developing instructional content with a focus on innovation, usability, user experience, and accessibility.
• Collaborates with faculty and other services to design and develop multimedia, interactive activities, or innovative visuals throughout the curriculum.
• Initiate, manage, and develop projects related to LMS, with a focus on technology tool analytics and their role in the assessment of learning outcomes in the curriculum.
• Evaluates interaction data from user experiences to guide faculty in continuous, iterative improvement processes. Designs and conducts user testing to facilitate this process.
• Utilizes data and industry-standard tooling to assess the accessibility and compliance of course material and technology platforms.
• Leads projects to evaluate, select, and integrate new and emerging technologies.
• Promotes the adoption of Universal Design principles and ADA compliance throughout the curriculum.
• Communicates and analyzes the design of technical information into terms understandable by a variety of users.
• Develop and deploy processes and strategies to integrate new technologies and technological options into course content and assessments.
• Design methods for integrating course technology data into the evaluation and development of curriculum.
• Provide service to the University through activities such as involvement in FNU shared governance (e.g., committees, workgroups), FNU-sponsored activities (e.g., charity drives, community outreach activities), and/or service to the profession (e.g., presentations, professional organization committee work).

Required Skills/Abilities

• Outstanding communication skills in visual, oral, and written formats.
• Strong track record of collaboration and problem-solving with faculty and team members. Demonstrated skill and comfort with initiating one-on-one communication and instruction with subject matter experts in a remote environment.
• Ability to translate creativity and passion for innovative course design to design significant learning experiences for students
• Ability to work effectively, both independently and as a team member
• Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple complex projects, develop own work schedule, and monitor progress against defined parameters

Education and Experience:

• Master's degree in instructional design, education, or a related field required
• Minimum of ten years experience in instructional design with proven skills in curriculum and course development and innovative learning experiences (beyond course design in one's own teaching field)
• Experience utilizing Understanding by Design (backward design) in course development.
• Knowledge of adult learning theory and best practices, including distance education and active learning and trends in educational technologies
• Demonstrated mastery in standard software and other technologies for instructional use, including Google Apps for Education, lecture recording and streaming services, Articulate, interactive video conferencing platforms, and Adobe Creative Suite Products. (Google Educator Certification Preferred)
• Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing and administering learning management systems (Canvas preferred)
• Experience with utilizing Quality Matters standards (APPQMR certification preferred)
• Knowledge of current accessibility standards such as Section 508 and WCAG and their application to the online learning environment.
• Must have a reliable broadband internet connection with at least 3 Mbps and ability to maintain video conferencing connections
• As a condition of employment, outside teaching and scholarship are not permissible
