Job summary

The City of Dallas seeks an Inspector III to perform highly specialized inspections, investigations, and enforcement across multiple construction and zoning disciplines. This independent role requires technical judgment and the ability to serve as the city’s technical authority on complex cases.

Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, and conservation regulations, while coordinating with project managers and customers.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of experience inspecting the design/construction/maintenance of streets, storm drainage systems, water/sewer mains, water/wastewater facilities and/or bridge improvements projects.
• Possess an ICC Building Inspector certification within one year of hire/promotion.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, investigate, and enforce city codes for construction, drainage, environmental, housing, and related projects.
• Identify, research, and enforce violations, advise on compliance methods.
• Issue notices of violation and conduct follow-up inspections.
• Perform complex inspections for diverse projects and monitor contractors for safety and compliance.
• Interpret zoning regulations in districts and planned developments, inspect sites for code compliance.
• Provide information to customers and testify at hearings as needed.
• Examine work by outside contractors to ensure contract compliance.
• Inspect at construction sites and review plans for code adherence.
• Patrol areas to verify permits, licenses, and barricades are in place.
• Keep current on new materials and changes in codes; communicate with builders and developers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
