Job summary

Dallas City Hall is seeking an Inspector III to perform highly specialized inspections, investigations, and enforcement across multiple domains including signal construction, drainage, and zoning. The role requires independent judgment and the ability to act as the City’s final technical authority on complex projects.

You will inspect city properties, identify violations, draft notices, and verify permits while coordinating with project managers and builders to ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Four years of inspecting streets, drainage, water/sewer, or bridges.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specs and apply codes.
• ICC Building Inspector Certification required within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conducts inspections to ensure compliance with safety, zoning, plans, and city codes.
• Investigates alleged violations and determines methods for conformance.
• Issues notices of violation and conducts follow-up inspections.
• Oversees complex projects and ensures contractors work safely and in compliance.
• Interpret and enforce zoning regulations in districts and planned developments.
• Provides information to customers and testifies at hearings when needed.
• Examines work by contractors to ensure quality and contract compliance.
• Patrols areas to verify permits and licenses are in place.
