Job summary

Covenant Health is seeking a Coding Specialist, Inpatient Coder, in Knoxville, TN. This full-time role provides leadership, direction, and training for the coding staff and serves as a liaison between HIM, Clinical Effectiveness, and Registration.

Responsibilities include improving documentation and coding accuracy, developing policies, conducting quality reviews, and addressing denials. Requires RHIA/RHIT certification and 5+ years of coding experience.

Qualifications

• Five or more (5+) years coding experience.
• RHIA or RHIT certification required; Registered Health Information Technologist preferred.
• Strong knowledge of coding guidelines and denials management.

Responsibilities

• Leads coding staff, monitors performance, and ensures accountability.
• Develops and updates coding policies and procedures.
• Educates physicians on coding vs. clinical documentation and resolves coding issues.
• Collaborates with Registration and Business Office to address claims, pre-cert, and denial appeals.
• Reviews documentation to ensure codes billed align with UB-92/HCFA 1500 requirements.
