Job summary

Covenant Health seeks a Coding Specialist for Centralized Coding, Outpatient, in Knoxville, TN. This full-time role leads coding staff, collaborates with physicians and management, and ensures accurate documentation and compliant billing.

Qualifications

  • Five or more (5+) years coding experience.
  • RHIA, RHIT, or RHIA certification required. Registered Health Information Technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees coding staff performance and accountability.
  • Develops and maintains coding policies and procedures; implements new policies.
  • Educates physicians and clarifies coding versus clinical issues.
  • Resolves issues related to claims, coding, pre-certifications, and denials appeals with Registration and Business Office.
  • Reviews medical record documentation to ensure correct codes billed.
  • Educates coding staff and physicians on regulatory changes and deficiencies.
  • Monitors denials and coordinates appeals related to coding and documentation.
  • Attends meetings and provides input on coding, documentation, and reimbursement requirements.
  • Promotes compliance awareness related to coding and documentation.
  • Coordinates staff education in coding, documentation, case mix, and denials.
  • Keeps current on LCDs/NCDs and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
