Qualifications

• Minimum three years of inpatient coding in acute care setting and proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Pass coding assessment before hire; CCS is required.

Responsibilities

• Address appeals to insurance denials to facilitate reimbursement.
• Apply AHA coding guidelines to support diagnoses and procedures.
• Identify patterns of coding errors and report to leadership.
• Query physicians for documentation clarification.
• Assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures; ensure proper DRG ranking.
• Maintain appeal logs and respond to inquiries regarding documentation and DRG.
• May train lower level coders and provide technical guidance.
