Requirements include CCS certification, an associate degree or equivalent, and 2–3 years in an acute care hospital. Strong communication and collaboration with CDS and billing teams are essential.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or equivalent experience required.
• Minimum 2–3 years progressive on-the-job experience in an acute care hospital.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required and maintained thereafter.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Applies knowledge of anatomy and physiology to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for complex accounts.
• Analyzes medical records using UHDDS and assigns accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes via CAC/encoder.
• Reviews DRG assignments and ensures correct DRG groupings and billing integrity.
• Adheres to coding procedures, policies, guidelines and ethical standards.
• Meets revenue cycle KPIs and productivity goals.
• Collaborates with CDS to determine appropriate DRG assignments for reimbursement.
• Assists in training and mentoring new coders.
