Job summary

Edison Smart® in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer to own the systems the business runs on, with hands-on work across Azure Government, GCC High, identity management, networking, and on-prem Linux, virtualization, ZFS storage, and GPU compute for AI/simulation.

You’ll join a growing defense tech team, help implement ITAR/EAR controls, participate in on-call rotations, and contribute to standing up a second site while building scalable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in infrastructure, systems or cloud engineering, hands-on.
• Strong Azure and M365 admin experience.
• Solid Entra ID / identity engineering knowledge.
• Solid networking fundamentals and security controls.

Responsibilities

• Own on-prem Linux estate (Ubuntu/Debian), virtualization and ZFS storage.
• Manage identity and access (Entra ID, CA, privileged access).
• Handle endpoint management across Windows/macOS (Intune) and incident response.

Austin, TX | Full-Time | $150k to $185k + equity

A growing defense technology company is looking for a Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer to own the systems the business runs on.

You'll be hands-on across Azure Government, Microsoft 365 GCC High, identity/endpoint management, networking, and a real on-prem estate (Linux, virtualization, ZFS storage, GPU compute for AI/simulation). The environment is young enough that you'll still be building it, established enough that people already depend on it. You'll also help stand up a second site.

What you’ll own:

• On-prem Linux estate (Ubuntu/Debian), virtualization and ZFS storage, GPU compute
• Identity and access: Entra ID, Conditional Access, privileged access
• Endpoint management across Windows and macOS (Intune)
• NIST SP 800-171 / CMMC technical controls alongside IT leadership
• On-call rotation and incident response for critical infrastructure

What you’ll need:

• 7+ years in infrastructure, systems or cloud engineering, hands-on not just architectural
• Deep Azure and M365 admin experience
• Strong Entra ID / identity engineering
• Solid networking fundamentals (routing, VLANs, DNS, TLS, VPN, firewall)
• PowerShell plus Bash or Python
• Must be a U.S. Person under export control regulations (ITAR/EAR)

Nice to have:

Azure Government/GCC High experience, NIST/CMMC/ITAR environments, Proxmox/VMware + ZFS, GPU/HPC on Linux, Terraform/Bicep, experience standing up a new site from scratch.
