Job summary

Edison Smart® is seeking a Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer to architect, build, and own the end-to-end infrastructure and cloud stack for a growing defense tech company. You will own on-prem Linux, virtualization, ZFS storage, and identity/access with Entra ID, CA, and Intune management across Windows and macOS.

The role requires 7+ years in infra/cloud, deep Azure/M365 experience, strong networking, scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python), ITAR/EAR eligibility, and up to 25% travel for

Qualifications

• 7+ years in infrastructure, systems or cloud engineering with hands-on architecture.

• Solid Entra ID / identity engineering.
• Strong networking fundamentals.
• PowerShell, Bash or Python.
• Must be a U.S. Person under export control regulations (ITAR/EAR).
• Willing to travel up to ~25% for new-site builds.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build and own the environment end to end.
• Stand up new sites, including network/firewall/infrastructure builds.
• Manage identity/access across Entra ID and CA.
• Maintain baseline security controls per NIST SP 800-171 / CMMC.
• Provide on-call rotation and incident response for infrastructure.

$150k to $185k+ (flexible for the right person)

A growing defense technology company building next-gen directed energy systems is hiring a Senior Infrastructure & Cloud Engineer to architect, build and own their environment end to end.

This is not a narrow specialist role. You'll be genuinely broad across cloud, servers, networking, firewalls, endpoints, identity/access and baseline security, someone who can design the architecture, make the case for it to leadership, then actually build it. You'll work alongside their existing infrastructure contractor initially, with the goal of bringing this capability fully in-house.

What sets the right person apart:

• Real ownership across the full stack, not years specialised in just networking, cloud, or security
• Has worked somewhere small enough to own network + servers + cloud + endpoints + architecture personally, think smaller defense contractor, growth company or startup rather than a huge prime
• Can assess options, present a recommendation, and then implement it
• Comfortable staying hands-on while thinking architecturally

What you'll own:

• On-prem Linux estate (Ubuntu/Debian), virtualization and ZFS storage, GPU compute
• Identity and access: Entra ID, Conditional Access, privileged access
• Endpoint management across Windows and macOS (Intune)
• Baseline security controls (NIST SP 800-171 / CMMC), a dedicated Security Analyst will own deeper security work separately
• Standing up new sites, including physical network/firewall/infrastructure builds
• On-call rotation and incident response for critical infrastructure

What you'll need:

• 7+ years in infrastructure, systems or cloud engineering, hands-on and architecture-capable, not just administering an established environment
• Deep Azure and M365 admin experience
• Strong Entra ID / identity engineering
• Solid networking fundamentals (routing, VLANs, DNS, TLS, VPN, firewall)
• PowerShell plus Bash or Python
• Must be a U.S. Person under export control regulations (ITAR/EAR)
• Willing to travel up to ~25%, particularly for new-site buildouts

Nice to have: Azure Government/GCC High experience, NIST/CMMC/ITAR environments, Proxmox/VMware + ZFS, GPU/HPC on Linux, Terraform/Bicep.
