Job summary

Lockheed Martin is seeking an Infrared Sensor Systems Testing and Integration Engineer in Santa Barbara, CA. You will design, build, and execute test campaigns validating sensor performance, integrating hardware and software, and supporting production readiness.

You will work with cross-functional teams to turn requirements into flight-qualified hardware, develop test plans, automate data processing, and generate actionable design improvements. A DoD clearance is required for this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field with 3+ years of professional experience; or a related Master’s degree with 1+ years of professional experience; or a PhD in a related field; or an equivalent combination of professional experience and demonstrated technical competency in lieu of a degree.
• Experience coding in a scripting language to include MATLAB, C, C++, SQL, Java, HTML, or Python
• Experience in working in a laboratory setting, testing hardware and electronics
• Ability to read electrical schematics and experience in probing electronics and/or circuit cards
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed test plans, procedures, and schedules for infrared sensor hardware.
• Set up and operate laboratory equipment such as function generators, power supplies, temperature controllers, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers.
• Build, modify, and integrate sensor prototypes, including firmware and software drivers.
• Execute functional, environmental, and performance tests; capture, analyze, and interpret data.
• Automate test sequences and data processing using MATLAB, Python, C/C++, SQL, Java, or HTML.
• Generate clear test reports, traceability matrices, and recommendations for design improvements.
• Troubleshoot hardware/software issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Support production units by qualifying new builds, updating test documentation, and providing technical guidance to manufacturing.
• Collaborate with engineers, program managers, and suppliers to ensure test activities align with schedule and cost objectives.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
