Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Refrigeration Engineer to lead the design and delivery of industrial refrigeration systems for food and beverage, federal, and industrial facilities. You will guide projects from proposals to commissioning, mentoring junior engineers while ensuring safety, efficiency, and code compliance.

In this role you will work with multidisciplinary teams to optimize energy use, select equipment, and develop thorough documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• PE License preferred or required where applicable.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience focused on industrial refrigeration system design, including ammonia and other refrigerants.
• Strong ability to lead refrigeration design efforts and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; solid engineering calculations and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead refrigeration engineering from proposals, field assessments, and basis-of-design through reviews, construction administration, and commissioning support.
• Design cold rooms, freezer rooms, blast freezers, chillers, and related controlled rooms and facilities.
• Calculate heat and mass balances, refrigeration loads, thermodynamic cycles, pipe sizes, insulation, energy use, and system efficiency.
• Prepare datasheets, specifications, equipment and utility schedules, tender docs, bills of quantities, and cost estimates.
• Develop PFDs, P&IDs, utility diagrams, system schematics, and valve schedules.
• Prepare coordinated construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit for plantroom layouts and piping routing.
• Develop refrigeration plant control philosophies and narratives for translation into control programs.
• Lead multidisciplinary design coordination, manage resources, and mentor junior engineers.
• Build trusted client relationships and deliver tailored solutions within schedules and budgets.
