Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation in Reading, PA seeks a Senior Industrial Mechanic to lead maintenance on heavy industrial equipment, ensuring reliability, efficiency and safety on the shop floor.

You will troubleshoot, repair and maintain systems, coach craft personnel, and collaborate with the Maintenance Coordinator and Planner to uphold high standards. The role requires strong leadership, hands-on expertise and a proactive approach.

Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience as qualified craft personnel (Mechanical Discipline) in a heavy industrial environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent technical and operational knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment and systems.
  • Knowledgeable in TPM/LEAN preferred.
  • Strong continuous improvement and project/program management skills.
  • Proactive problem‑solving skills with the ability to recommend and implement solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical circuitry diagrams and drawings preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Ability to operate independently, to multi‑task, and to prioritize quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA, NFPA, and other safety standards.
  • Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on minimizing downtime.
  • Must be able to meet safety requirements including ANSI fall protection expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on the shop floor to ensure reliability, efficiency, and safety of mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy industrial equipment.
  • Coach and mentor other craft personnel.
  • Support the Maintenance Coordinator and Maintenance Planner to ensure work is executed at the highest standards.

Primary Role

The Senior Industrial Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of mechanical systems within the mill, as a working lead on the shop floor. The Senior Industrial Mechanic will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy industrial equipment. In addition to executing maintenance activities, they will serve as a coach and mentor to other craft personnel. They will support the Maintenance Coordinator and Maintenance Planner in ensuring work is executed at the highest standards and in accordance with the established work management processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
