Job summary

RTX is seeking a Principal Industrial Engineer to support the Sensors portfolio of factories in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. The role leads factory optimization, drives strategic planning, and partners with cross-functional teams to maximize throughput and efficiency in a DoD context.

The position requires a DoD Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship. You will model plants, drive capacity planning, and influence capital projects while mentoring teams in Lean and Six Sigma practices.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a STEM degree with 8+ years of experience.
• Experience with capacity/constraint analysis.
• Experience with CAD software for factory layouts (e.g., AutoCAD).
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing best practices.

Responsibilities

• Analyze manufacturing system performance to identify constraints, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to improve capacity, cost, quality, and schedule.
• Create factory models using flow diagrams and CAD drawings to show processes and metrics.
• Support strategic roadmaps related to factory capacity, infrastructure, and new technologies.
• Partner with functions to modify factory footprint, layouts, and new capabilities.
• Lead analyses to support bids, proposals, and Make/Buy decisions.
• Mentor teams to drive data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
