Position Overview

The Senior Industrial Engineer, Excellence plays a critical role in advancing Burlington Stores, Inc.’s supply chain objectives by leading and supporting engineering-driven initiatives. The role will manage various project tasks—including ideation, business case development, implementation, change management, and value realization—while partnering closely with key stakeholders across Distribution Center Operations and Transportation.

A Day in the Life

• Project Design Identify productivity and process improvement opportunities through data analysis and actionable recommendations.
• Conduct DC observations, understand current operations, and collaborate with subject matter experts from corporate to site-level teams.
• Develop robust project plans with clear milestones and timelines using an engineering mindset.
• Project Implementation Lead supply chain improvement initiatives through cross-functional DMAIC projects.
• Create and manage project documentation, including project charters and Gantt charts, to ensure stakeholder alignment.
• Proactively identify and resolve potential roadblocks to maintain project timelines.
• Support the design and implementation of material handling equipment for new, expanded, or existing facilities.
• Value Capture Use data analysis to validate project hypotheses and measure improvement outcomes.
• Conduct work sampling, return on investment (ROI) analysis, and cost/benefit analysis to support project decision-making.
• Sustainability Ensure successful transition of project ownership to operational teams post-implementation.
• Design tools, reports, and documentation to track and sustain long-term project results.

Additional Responsibilities

Onsite presence is required five days per week. Occasional night and/or weekend shifts may be required based on business needs. Participate in ad hoc assignments, including complex cross-functional initiatives aligned with business objectives.

Requirements

• You’ll Come With 4+ years of experience in projects related to process and material handling systems design, work measurement, productivity improvement, cost reduction, and project implementation
• BS in Industrial Engineering required
• Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
• Experience with work measurement methodologies and tools, with an emphasis on time study expertise
• Experience in best methods development and implementation
• Experience in the development and maintenance of a management observation program
• Experience in the development and maintenance of an accountability program
• Experience with productivity tracking and data collection systems
• Experience with Standard Data and Predetermined Time Systems
• Experience performing cost analysis for project justification
• Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret information and develop, recommend, and implement solutions while maintaining budget
• Effective communication, planning, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent PC skills, including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• SQL database querying and experience with BI tools/languages
• Experience with Manhattan Associates Supply Chain Suite and Dematic WCS functionality

Physical Requirements

Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% to support project execution and collaborate with cross-functional teams. Ability to stand for extended periods in a warehouse environment for time studies and work sampling. Ability to sit for extended periods while performing data analysis and reporting. Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds during method testing or system start-ups.
