Job summary

AbbVie is seeking an Automation Engineer to lead the design, implementation and integration of automation projects across manufacturing and laboratory operations. You will provide technical support and oversee OT system configurations, validation, and data migrations for DCS, PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and Data Historian systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering with at least four years of relevant experience.
• Experience with SCADA and PLCs (Ignition, Allen-Bradley) and HMI development.
• Familiarity with FDA, GMP, 21 CFR 11, Data Integrity and regulatory expectations.
• Knowledge of Windows Server OS, Active Directory, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage external vendors.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for Automation Applications and process control systems.
• Provide process controls input for improvements and manufacturing issues.
• Configure and program OT Systems per change control procedures.
• Train OT Systems users/engineers in new automation technologies.
• Diagnose OT hardware, software, and networking issues; replace components as needed.
• Validate OT upgrades and data migrations for DCS, PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and Data Historian systems.
• Support OT lifecycle including qualification protocols and documentation.
• Perform OT System administration and maintenance tasks (OS updates, backups, access management).
• Apply project management techniques for automation projects of varying size.
• Occasionally perform maintenance during off-peak hours; ensure EHS compliance.
