Job summary

SpaceX is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Senior Manager to lead sales and use tax compliance across the U.S. and Canada, manage audits, and optimize tax planning. This on-site role located in Hawthorne, CA requires strong technical knowledge and cross-functional collaboration.

You will work with Vertex and Avalara, supervise data gathering, tax research, and notices, and drive opportunities to reduce tax exposure while ensuring compliance.

Qualifications

• 10+ years experience as an indirect tax professional in public accounting or at a large multinational company.
• Experience with MS Excel and tax research tools (i.e. RIA Checkpoint).

Responsibilities

• Gather and manipulate data and coordinate with external service providers to prepare sales and use tax and VAT returns across all U.S. states and Canada
• Manage monthly and year-end general ledger account reconciliation
• Stay informed with new products and business growth initiatives to provide guidance and ensure compliance and audit defense
• Resolve tax notices and similar matters
• Perform tax technical research related to sales and use tax and other indirect tax matters
• Assist with invoice sales tax reviews and use tax accrual reviews
• Assist in validating data and proper calculation and collection of sales tax in all states in Vertex and Avalara
• Work with vendors and internal purchasing teams on sales & use tax matters, including claiming various exemptions or abatements, and looking for savings opportunities
• Document indirect tax positions, issues, and resolutions
• Assist with indirect tax audits, refund claims and coordinate responses to various tax authorities
• Prepare and maintain tax calendar for indirect tax licenses, filings, as well as assist in various administrative matters
• Validate and manage sales tax exemption certificates
