Job summary

Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation (NHLC) seeks a Senior Litigation Counsel to advance impact litigation for Native Hawaiian rights. The role involves managing complex cases, leading discovery, preparing witnesses, and guiding appellate work.

The lawyer will interact with NHLC leadership, community organizations, and co-counsel to advance strategic objectives. Ideal candidates have 8+ years of litigation experience, a JD from an accredited school, Hawaii bar admission, and a track record in trial

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience as a practicing attorney in litigation.
• Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited American school of law.
• Active license to practice law in the State of Hawaii and in good standing with the Hawaii State Bar Association.
• Experience handling first chair responsibility in litigation; trial and appellate experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage assigned cases, including case assessment, preliminary document review and due diligence, formulation of litigation strategy and oversight of case work.
• Lead marshaling of relevant facts and evidence, including discovery, witness preparation and depositions, research and drafting of pleadings.
• Prepare for and lead trials and appellate oral argument; participate in settlements when appropriate.
• Maintain positive client relationships and engage NHLC leadership and stakeholders as needed.
• Collaborate with partners and co-counsel to advance NHLC projects and provide effective representation.
