Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation (NHLC), a nonprofit public-interest law firm dedicated to Native Hawaiian rights, is seeking a Senior Litigation Counsel to join its impact litigation team in Hawaii. This exempt, full-time role handles complex litigation, often with appellate work, including water rights, environmental protection, and cultural heritage cases.

Qualifications

8+ years’ experience as a practicing attorney in litigation.
Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited American school of law.
Active Hawaii license to practice law; member in good standing with the Hawaii State Bar Association.
Experience handling first chair responsibility in litigation; trial and appellate experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop and manage assigned cases, including case assessment, strategy formulation, and overseeing litigation activities.
Lead discovery, witness preparation, depositions, and trial preparation.
Draft, edit, and finalize pleadings and appellate briefs.
Coordinate with the Litigation Director and NHLC leadership on substantive matters.
Maintain client relationships and effective communications with NHLC colleagues and partners.
Collaborate with co-counsel and pro bono counsel to advance NHLC projects.
