Job summary

UCSF seeks a Laboratory Associate Director for the Immunogenetics and Transplantation Laboratory (ITL) in San Francisco, CA. The role requires MD or PhD with ACHI certification and CA licensure/eligibility to direct histocompatibility operations.

You will lead high‑throughput serological and molecular histocompatibility testing, oversee quality systems, and mentor staff while collaborating with transplant surgeons and stem cell teams. Active research and education participation is expected.

Qualifications

• MD and/or PhD degree or equivalent.
• Certified by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI).
• Licensed or eligible by the State of California as Histocompatibility Laboratory Associate Director.

Responsibilities

• Oversee serological and molecular histocompatibility testing in a high‑throughput lab.
• Manage quality systems, teaching, and personnel in a complex lab.
• Consult with transplant surgeons and hematopoietic stem cell physicians.
• Lead administration, budgeting, and regulatory compliance for the histocompatibility unit.
• Support residency training and education programs within the department.
• Maintain independent research funding and contribute to immunology/transplantation research.
