Job summary

HIAS is seeking a Senior Grassroots Organizer to strengthen state and local advocacy for immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees, and other forcibly displaced people across the United States. The role will manage 3–4 priority states and work with Advocacy and Communications to drive campaigns aligned with national policy priorities.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant grassroots organizing and advocacy campaign experience.
• Ability to design advocacy strategies with goals, timelines, metrics, and partner plans.
• Experience building trusted relationships with diverse partners and coalitions.
• Experience with Jewish communities and social justice networks preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to translate policy into accessible materials.
• Willingness to work evenings/weekends and travel domestically.

Responsibilities

• Develops and manages state/local grassroots advocacy strategy for priority states.
• Identifies policy opportunities and translates them into campaign plans.
• Builds partnerships with Jewish institutions, immigrant-rights coalitions, and local networks.
• Mobilizes community base and partner networks for campaigns, education, and outreach.
• Designs advocacy trainings, briefings, and campaign tools.
• Represents HIAS in local/state spaces, aligned with mission and priorities.
• Collaborates on messaging, toolkits, talking points, website content, and donor materials.
• Tracks progress and metrics; informs strategy and donor reports.
• Monitors developments in assigned states and provides analysis.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
