Job summary

Twilio is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to anchor the new Identity Graph initiative for Fraud & Risk. You will shape the platform’s architecture, balance privacy with performance, and translate early concepts into a practical MVP with cross‑team collaboration.

You’ll lead a high‑impact effort, mentor engineers, and drive technical alignment with product and leadership while delivering scalable, real‑time data capabilities across multiple use cases.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, building and operating distributed systems, graph databases and complex data models.
• Production-grade coding experience in a modern programming language and writing high‑quality code.
• Proven experience owning system architecture and leading cross‑functional engineering teams.
• Ambiguity wrangling and turning concepts into actionable MVPs with bias for action.
• Commitment to mentorship, collaboration and raising the team’s technical bar.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with stakeholder management skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Willingness to work non‑standard on‑call rotation and hours.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical vision and architecture for Identity Graph and related platforms.
• Design and maintain high‑performance read models for real‑time risk decisions.
• Build data pipelines with multi‑cadence hydration and real‑time events.
• Enforce privacy boundaries and secure PII handling from day 1.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align on direction.
• Coordinate with Twilio and Stytch teams to integrate platform capabilities.
• Break down undefined problems and document requirements clearly.
• Establish production quality, resilience and observability standards.
• Mentor teammates and elevate the team’s technical capabilities.
