Job summary

Harvard University’s IT organization seeks a Principal IAM Engineer to lead identity and access management platforms, partnering with HBS colleagues and vendors to deliver high-impact security services and reliable systems.

The role blends strategic roadmap development with hands-on design, implementation, and service management. This hybrid position requires on-site presence in Boston three days per week.

Qualifications

• Seven years or more of post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
• Experience with identity and access management technologies, including platform administration and security.
• Experience leading services through full lifecycle using Agile delivery methodologies.
• Proven MSP/vendor management experience with accountability and service levels.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to simplify complex challenges.
• Excellent communication skills to influence stakeholders and present to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Service Owner and Technical Oversight Lead for HBS IAM platforms.
• Define and execute long-term IAM roadmap aligned with institutional priorities.
• Provide design, advanced support, troubleshooting, and documentation leadership.
• Lead full IAM service lifecycle from strategy to ongoing support.
• Translate complex problems into clear, detailed requirements for engineers and users.
• Build partnerships with IT colleagues, MSPs and vendors to support enterprise goals.
• Oversee MSP relationships and vendor performance to ensure compliance with standards.
• Mentor engineers and supervise temporary resources delivering secure environments.
