Job summary

Hazen and Sawyer seeks a Senior Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Systems Engineer to lead project-level I&C engineering in Florida with a hybrid work option. You will mentor junior staff and work on water/wastewater projects from planning through commissioning.

The role requires 10–15 years of relevant experience, a Florida PE license, and strong communication skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
• 10-15 years of progressively responsible engineering experience including I&C, controls, electrical, or industrial process experience.
• Experience with instrumentation and control systems used in water/wastewater treatment or similar facilities.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 70, NEC, and related codes and industry practices.
• Experience with electrical design and interface between electrical and I&C systems.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for coordinating with clients and teams.
• Ability to lead technical work, manage priorities, and deliver multiple projects concurrently.
• Experience with industrial Ethernet and fieldbus architectures.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license; Florida license required.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering studies and assessments and prepare technical memoranda and reports.
• Lead development of complete I&C drawings including P&IDs, PFDs, network diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
• Develop technical specifications for instrumentation and control systems and contribute to master specs.
• Participate in site visits, client workshops, and project meetings.
• Coordinate I&C designs across disciplines for complete, coordinated documents.
• Perform quality control reviews of calculations, drawings, and specs for accuracy and constructability.
• Assist with construction-phase field services and respond to RFIs and submittals.
• Support startup, testing, and commissioning activities including functional testing of PLC/SCADA systems.
• Develop and review cost estimates for I&C and SCADA work with the cost estimating group.
• Establish relationships with clients and partners; support business development; develop project scopes and proposals.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
