Job summary

Ursa Major, headquartered in Colorado, seeks a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to own sensor selection and automated control systems development. You will work across Prod, Test, Quality and Safety to advance production equipment from benchtop fixtures to facility-scale systems.

You will develop LabVIEW programs to operate with PLCs, integrate NI and Siemens hardware, and help validate new propulsion test apparatus in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

• BS degree or higher in an engineering field; Mechatronic/chemical/mechanical preferred
• 5+ years of experience with test/process system design or related role
• Experience developing headless operating cRIO/PXI systems
• Experience LabVIEW programs integrating non-NI hardware
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
• Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders
• Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, ladders, and lifting up to 25 lbs

Responsibilities

• Be part of a team designing safety-first systems handling hazardous fluids, powders, and energetics
• Understand functional test requirements of propulsion subassemblies to deliver production equipment
• Lead selection of instrumentation across test applications
• Lead development of headless-operating cRIO/PXI connected to SCADA layer
• Lead LabVIEW programs coordinating with Siemens S7 PLCs for validation and development
• Contribute to equipment development considering specs, layout, cost and lead-time
• Hands-on during commissioning with engineers and technicians
• Generate documentation including operator manuals and work instructions
• Contribute to internal production equipment standards and documentation
• Implement networked communications to interconnect NI and Siemens hardware with SCADA
