Inversion, based in Playa Vista, CA, seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to develop software powering a hypersonic reentry vehicle. You’ll work across the full stack from hardware interfaces to flight software, collaborating with electrical, systems and avionics teams to deliver safe, reliable software across all flight phases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline.
• Typically 5+ years of professional embedded software experience in aerospace/defense/robotics/high‑reliability systems.
• Strong proficiency in modern C and C++ development.
• Experience in bare‑metal, RTOS, or Embedded Linux environments.
• Experience debugging at the hardware boundary, processor bring‑up, peripherals integration.
• Solid understanding of computer architecture, memory systems, interrupts, DMA, and embedded OSes.
• Experience with embedded communication protocols: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, RS‑422/RS‑232/RS‑485.
• Experience with distributed embedded systems using DDS, CoAP, MQTT, gRPC, REST, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet.
• Software verification, unit/integration testing, and root‑cause analysis.
• Git‑based development workflows and Python for tooling.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software for flight computers and avionics subsystems.
• Develop high‑reliability software in C/C++ for real‑time embedded aerospace environments.
• Own software development across the product lifecycle including requirements, architecture, implementation, verification, flight test support, and deployment.
• Develop BSPs, HALs, bootloaders, and device drivers for custom avionics hardware.
• Perform board bring‑up and hardware enablement on new processors and FPGA platforms.
• Develop interfaces for sensors, actuators, radios, power, storage, and vehicle networks.
• Design vehicle‑wide communication architectures using DDS, CoAP, and other networking technologies.
• Support distributed vehicle software architectures including telemetry, C2, health monitoring, and data logging.
• Design and execute unit, integration tests, and HIL verification campaigns.
• Debug software/hardware interactions with oscilloscope/logic analyzers/JTAG and tooling.
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, manufacturing, integration, and flight ops teams to resolve issues.
• Participate in design reviews, architecture reviews, code reviews, and flight readiness reviews.
• Support vehicle integration, environmental testing, flight tests, and mission operations as needed.
