Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. seeks a Senior Hydraulic Structures Engineer to lead inspection, evaluation, design, and construction observation of hydraulic structures such as dams, spillways, outlet works, and pump stations in California.

You'll apply steel, concrete design and finite element methods (linear/nonlinear) under static and dynamic loading, plus geotechnical elements as needed. You will work with GEI’s California Rancho Cordova office and other GEI offices, traveling to sites as required

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Structural or Civil Engineering; MS/PhD preferred.
• 10 years of professional Civil/Structural Engineering experience.
• Licensed as Professional Engineer in California or ability to obtain within one year of hire date.
• Strong theoretical background in earthquake/seismic engineering and finite element modeling; proficient in SAP2000 and LS-DYNA/ANSYS.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
• Willing to travel to site locations, including field assignments.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Lead large projects within technical specialty and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Responsibilities will include structural analysis and design of hydraulic structures related to dams, flood control, hydroelectric facilities, and other water resource projects.
• Typical structures include spillways, outlet works, canals, storm drainage facilities, flood walls, and pump stations.
• Collaborate with senior project managers and technical staff across the company.
• Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.
• Review technical reports, letters, and memoranda.
• Lead, or provide oversight for preparation of design calculations, permit documents, and reports.
• Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and bid documents
• Lead development of project plans, schedules and budgets
• Lead proposals to provide professional services and support other GEI offices with proposals and the delivery of professional services.
