Job summary

The Southern Environmental Law Center is seeking a Litigation Strategy Director to lead strategy, standards, and professional development for its nationally recognized litigation program.

This senior role reports to the Chief Program Officer and works across offices, mentoring attorneys, guiding test cases, and coordinating with partners. The position offers a hybrid work model and relocation support.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years of litigation experience with first-chair responsibility.
• Active license to practice law in SELC states or Washington, D.C.
• Strong command of civil procedure and professional responsibility.
• Proven ability to coach junior and mid-career litigators.
• Excellent written and oral communication with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to SELC offices as needed.
• Commitment to an equitable and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

• Partner with leaders to integrate litigation into program plans.
• Advise on litigation strategy and key filings.
• Approve major litigation decisions and guide test cases.
• Monitor developments and advise on ethics and conflicts.
• Supervise and mentor SELC litigators.
• Set training priorities and foster excellence.
• Coordinate with national and regional partners and clients.
• Represent SELC’s litigation work to donors and the press.
