Job summary

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is actively seeking Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior to support statewide road maintenance in Fremont, NE. The role offers growth with pay differentials for CDL holders and a strong benefits package as part of a large state employer.

Primary responsibilities include operating trucks and tractors, installing signs and guardrails, and performing routine maintenance. A valid driver’s license is required; CDL endorsements may be needed within 60 days.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment or farming background is preferred.
• Must have valid driver's license; CDL with tanker endorsements may be required.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and light equipment to perform highway maintenance.
• Operate tractors with attachments to maintain highways and right of way.
• Install signs, fences, guardrails, and related structures.
• Perform tree trimming and brush cutting.
• Paint buildings and structures as needed.
• Maintain yards and cleaning; perform minor building upkeep.
• Provide highway traffic control per safety procedures.
• Move and lift equipment, materials, and supplies safely.
• Apply herbicides and manage related safety protocols.
• May work night shifts and on-call during emergencies.
