Job summary

University of Virginia Facilities Management in Charlottesville seeks a licensed senior HVAC Mechanic to join the North Grounds Maintenance Zone, supporting reliable, safe, and efficient operation of 1.8 million square feet across 30 buildings.

The role emphasizes preventive and reactive work, leadership, and teamwork with apprentices and other trades to keep critical systems running and learning environments comfortable for UVA students and staff.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of HVAC experience.
• Journey or Master level license.
• Experience with automated HVAC control systems preferred.
• Familiarity with OSHA and safety practices is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and run larger, more complex jobs involving more than one mechanic.
• Assist supervisor in coordinating daily assignments among different jobs.
• Perform preventive maintenance repairs and emergency maintenance on commercial and residential HVAC equipment.
• Respond to emergency requests.
• Inform customers of job status, delays, and durations; refer to supervisor when appropriate.
• Foster a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with OSHA and local regulations.
• Specify, estimate, and install equipment, wiring, and systems per code and university requirements.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to North Grounds Zone workers.
• Other duties may be assigned.
