Job summary

Uncommon Schools is seeking a Senior HVAC Technician to join the New Jersey Facilities team. This role requires seven+ years of relevant experience, handling inspections, maintenance, and repairs across diverse school facilities to ensure safe, reliable environments for students and staff.

The position reports to the Senior Manager, Facilities Management Team, with responsibilities spanning project management, coordination with outside vendors, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Significant journeyman-level HVAC experience and code-compliant practices.
• Strong background in commercial heating projects, boilers, and furnaces.
• Ability to read as-built plans, drawings, and technical manuals.
• Advanced knowledge of BMS systems and operations.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, repair, and modify HVAC systems in NJ buildings.
• Lead minor HVAC projects and manage larger ones within budget.
• Coordinate with senior team members and outside consultants on mechanical work.
• Mentor junior staff and communicate with facilities, staff, and vendors.
• Respond to campus emergencies after hours as needed.
• Maintain records in automated work order system (SchoolDude/ Zendesk).
• Support onsite Facilities Managers and General Maintenance Workers.
