Job summary

Uncommon Schools in Newark, NJ is seeking a Senior HVAC Technician to join the New Jersey Facilities team. You will inspect, maintain, repair, and modify HVAC systems across our educational facilities, lead minor projects, and coordinate with vendors to meet timelines and budgets.

The ideal candidate has at least seven years of hands-on HVAC experience, a strong background in boiler and chiller systems, and the ability to read plans and operate BMS; compensation ranges from $43 to $50 per hour

Qualifications

• Significant journeyman-level HVAC experience and knowledge of codes.
• Strong background in commercial heating projects, boilers, and furnaces.
• Ability to read as-built plans and construction drawings.
• Advanced knowledge of BMS systems and operations.
• EPA refrigerant handling and NJ boiler/license credentials are a plus.
• Excellent communication with facilities staff, vendors, and school leadership.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of HVAC codes and perform all HVAC trades safely.
• Diagnose problems, evaluate solutions, and provide recommendations.
• Contain and restore HVAC systems during emergencies; communicate with stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot and repair various HVAC systems in the portfolio.
• Maintain records through work order systems (SchoolDude/ZenDesk).
• Assist Facilities Managers and staff with projects and assignments.
• Respond to campus emergencies after hours as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
