Job summary

Summit Public Schools is seeking a skilled HVAC Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. The role maintains and repairs HVAC systems across multiple school buildings, ensuring comfortable, safe learning environments for students and staff.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of HVAC experience, a NJ driver’s license, and EPA 608 certification if possible. A high school diploma or equivalent and a Black Seal Boiler license or eligibility within 10 months are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years in HVAC maintenance, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
  • High School diploma or equivalent; HVAC certification preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification preferred.
  • Valid NJ driver’s license required.
  • Black Seal Boiler License or must attain within 10 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC systems across school buildings (boilers, air handlers, chillers, thermostats).
  • Monitor BAS to optimize energy efficiency and climate control.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety regulations.
  • Demonstrate safety practices and basic manual handling.

Summit Public Schools is seeking a skilled and reliable HVAC Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. This role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems across all school buildings to ensure a comfortable and safe learning environment for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC systems, including boilers, air handlers, chillers, ventilation units, and thermostats
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems (BAS) to optimize energy efficiency and climate control
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical components, and plumbing as it relates to heating and cooling
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety codes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Knowledge in multimeters, ammeters, megohmmeters, 3-phase electrical services, safety precautions/OSHA 30 (preferred), 277/480 VAC systems, low voltage wiring, and BAS/BACnet operation (preferred).
  • Demonstrate strength and dexterity to be able to perform all required tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs. and snow removal

  • EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal) preferred
  • Valid NJ driver's license
