Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking an HVAC Master Technician to join the Dining Maintenance team within Student Affairs in Blacksburg, VA. You will oversee hydronic systems across campus dining halls and facilities, reporting to the Dining Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities include installation, troubleshooting, and repair of hydronic heating/cooling, reading blueprints, and leading preventative maintenance. Travel is not required; overtime and on-call duties may apply.

Qualifications

• Expertise in HVAC systems and components for high-quality maintenance and repairs.
• Extensive hydronic heating and cooling experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with customers, coworkers and leadership.
• Willingness to work overtime and after-hours service calls; essential personnel.
• Journeyman HVAC experience or license with DPOR Master’s License within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair hydronic systems (steam, chilled water, hot water).
• Maintain air handlers, VAV boxes, pumps, valves, and piping components.
• Plan and execute preventative maintenance with leadership.
• Provide hands-on training to trainee-level staff.
• Perform minor electrical, plumbing, and dining equipment repairs.
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and emergency response.
