Job summary

Intertek is seeking a Sr. Staff Engineer – HVAC Performance in Plano, Texas, to lead evaluation against standards, review final reports, and mentor staff. Travel up to 25% and collaboration with clients, accreditors, AHJs are required.

The role sits in Intertek's Electrical team, with a focus on testing, certification, and developing technical capabilities across UL, AHRI, ASHRAE, and related standards, supporting complex HVAC projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Electrical degree considered with relevant experience.
• 10+ years of HVAC product design/testing, energy efficiency, and regulatory landscape.
• Ability to read/interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, piping diagrams, standards.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-project environment; strong analytical thinking.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; knowledge of AHRI/ASHRAE/CFR/ISO standards.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and apply UL, CSA, AHRI, ASHRAE, and DOE requirements to EUT.
• Develop, lead, and/or support testing, inspection and certification programs.
• Plan, coordinate and control progress of project work and keep the client informed.
• Review project files for compliance with operating procedures.
• Make technical decisions relating to standards interpretation and test programs.
• Interact with clients, accreditors and AHJs to resolve issues and escalate as needed.
• Participate in technical committees and standards development.
• May present and publish technical papers.
• Supervise, train and develop junior staff.
• Provide input into quality assurance and resource organization.
