Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lead HVAC Mechanical Engineer in Hamilton, NJ to drive high-level mechanical design across building projects. You’ll guide concept to commissioning, coordinate with PMs and senior engineers, and ensure conformance with codes and standards.

Ideal candidates have 7–10 years’ experience, a PE license, and strong communication and collaboration skills. Master’s degree and LEED/HAZWOPER certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical design experience for a consulting engineering firm.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, decision making and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Ability to consistently set goals and meet deadlines and adapt to flexible responsibilities
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Experience with Deltek or Project Resource Management software is preferred
  • Ability to meet and exceed client expectations
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering (preferred)
  • LEED certification desired
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired

Responsibilities

  • Apply high-level mechanical engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements across project phases.
  • Perform professional mechanical engineering work and inspect site conditions for conformance with standards.
  • Design mechanical systems including calculations of heating and cooling loads.
  • Select and layout mechanical equipment such as pumps, chillers, fans and boilers.
  • Develop construction and installation plans, specs, and cost estimates.
  • Manage mechanical design and construction from inception to completion on projects.
  • Incorporate advanced technologies and modeling techniques for proper installation and operation.
  • Coordinate and review installation design plans for data integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations addressing engineering issues and opportunities.
  • Attend meetings with architects, owners and managers to discuss projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners and authorities on funded improvement projects.
  • Stay current with latest mechanical engineering practices.
