Job summary

Trane Technologies in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Senior Designer IV to lead mechanical design and development of HVAC components. You will create detailed engineering docs, 3D models, and production drawings that translate requirements into manufacturable and cost-effective solutions while guiding design direction.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years (Bachelor) or 10+ years (Associate) of mechanical design, with CAD proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, or Inventor, and strong GD&T and manufacturability

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field with relevant experience.
• 10+ years (assoc. deg.) or 7+ years (bachelor) in mechanical design.
• Experience in HVAC, industrial equipment, or manufacturing preferred.
• Strong CAD proficiency and knowledge of design controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead 3D model development, drawings, and engineering docs for HVAC components.
• Translate requirements into manufacturable, cost-effective designs.
• Drive design execution from concept to production release.
• Champion design improvements for performance and reliability.
• Apply advanced mechanical design knowledge to robust solutions.
• Establish drafting standards for accurate documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, lab, and PM teams.
• Own BOMs, revisions, and controlled documentation.
• Lead complex projects, provide technical direction, resolve issues.
• Mentor teammates and promote best practices in CAD.
• Demonstrate leadership, innovation, and customer focus.
• Coordinate and review team work; ensure safety compliance.
• MB Definition knowledge is a plus; adapt to company standards.
