Job summary

Salas O’Brien in Austin, TX, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Designer to design HVAC systems for educational, retail, and commercial spaces. The role requires leading project teams, coordinating with owners and architects, and delivering compliant, high-quality mechanical designs.

You will develop calculations, supervise QA/QC, and produce drawings in AutoCAD and Revit. Strong HVAC knowledge and experience with CBC/CMC/CPC, DDC controls, and Title 24 are essential.

Qualifications

• 10 years of HVAC design and construction experience.
• Solid understanding of duct design, piping design, air handlers, chiller and boiler systems.
• Experience with performing load calculations, equipment selection and design.
• Knowledge of CBC, CMC and CPC codes, DDC controls, Title 24, HAP or Energy Pro.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handling units, ductwork, piping and controls.
• Develop mechanical system design calculations.
• Perform QA/QC design work.
• Lead a project team and manage projects.
• Coordinate with Owners and Architects.
• Complete code compliance research.
• Oversee and provide guidance to junior engineers.
• Produce mechanical design drawings in AutoCAD and/or Revit software
• Perform field investigations
• Coordinate quality control, scheduling, and programming
• Coordinate and communicate information and progress with all three disciplines (mechanical, electrical and plumbing)
