Job summary

Salas O’Brien, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Designer in Austin, TX to design HVAC systems for diverse building types, including K-12 and retail spaces.

You will lead projects, perform design calculations, and coordinate with Owners and Architects to ensure code compliance and on-time delivery. The role requires extensive experience with ductwork, chiller/boiler systems, Revit or AutoCAD drawings, and strong communication skills to guide junior engineers and collaborate across

Qualifications

• HVAC design with 10 years of experience.
• Knowledge of CBC, CMC and CPC codes, DDC controls, Title 24, HAP or Energy Pro.
• Experience with load calculations and equipment selection and design.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handling units, ductwork, piping and controls.
• Develop mechanical system design calculations.

Job Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer/Designer serves to design HVAC systems for buildings such as K-12 schools, retail/mixed-use spaces, and commercial spaces

In this role, you will:

• Design HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, air handling units, ductwork, piping and controls.
• Develop mechanical system design calculations.
• Lead a project team and managing projects.
• Coordinate with Owners and Architects.
• Complete code compliance research.
• Oversee and provide guidance to junior engineers.
• Produce mechanical design drawings in AutoCAD and/or Revit software
• Perform field investigations
• Coordinate quality control, scheduling, and programming
• Coordinate and communicate information and progress with all three disciplines (mechanical, electrical and plumbing)

You will be a great fit if:

• You have demonstrated facilitation experience
• You have 10 years of experience in HVAC design and construction
• You have a solid understanding of duct design, piping design, air handlers, chiller, and boiler systems
• You have experience with performing load calculations, equipment selection and design, wet and dry side system design
• You have knowledge of CBC, CMC and CPC codes, DDC controls, Title 24, HAP or Energy Pro

Skills/abilities:

• Must have strong verbal and written communications skills in design and specifications
• Excellent work ethic and attitude.
• Interpersonal communication skills, combined with organizational skills, the ability to plan, balance and prioritize work.
• Ability to lead a team as well as work as part of a team.
• You have experience with complex institutional projects.
• You are familiar with codes, standards and design guidelines.
• Proficient in Revit and MS Office.

Travel: Less than 10%
