Job summary

NAES is seeking a High Voltage Transmission Lead Technician to inspect, maintain, and repair 345 kV transmission assets, ensuring reliability for the New York metropolitan area. Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in electrical technology or related technical field preferred.
  • 5-6 years of experience in high-voltage transmission line inspection, maintenance, repair, and emergency restoration.
  • Strong knowledge of transmission system components, including conductors, insulators, towers, grounding systems, and related equipment.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting transmission system faults, outages, insulation issues, and equipment failures.
  • Understanding of electrical fundamentals, including grounding, insulation coordination, and protective relaying.
  • Experience coordinating field maintenance with utilities, contractors, and other transmission stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-voltage safety practices, including lockout/tagout, PPE, and hazard controls.
  • Experience leading field crews and coordinating multiple maintenance activities.
  • Proficiency with CMMS or asset management systems (e.g., Maximo) for work order management and maintenance documentation.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of high-voltage transmission lines, towers, and associated equipment to identify defects, evaluate asset condition, and maintain system reliability.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities, including storm restoration and repair or replacement of conductors, insulators, line hardware, and related equipment.
  • Supervise transmission system testing, diagnostics, fault analysis, and protective relay verification to identify issues and ensure reliable system performance.
  • Coordinate vegetation management and right-of-way (ROW) maintenance activities to maintain required clearances and support safe, reliable transmission operations.
  • Lead field crews, contractors, and maintenance activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures and project schedules.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of inspections, maintenance activities, equipment condition, and work history within CMMS and asset management systems, including Maximo.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor work orders while analyzing maintenance data to improve planning, asset performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams and stakeholders to develop and optimize maintenance schedules that maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor maintenance expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support annual budget development through asset planning, forecasting, and lifecycle cost analysis.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE requirements, incident reporting, field safety standards, and participation in safety training.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards while supporting the safe, reliable operation of high-voltage transmission and substation assets.
