NAES is seeking a High Voltage Transmission Lead Technician to inspect, maintain, and repair 345 kV transmission assets, ensuring reliability for the New York metropolitan area. You will coordinate outages and restoration with NYPA, contractors, and field crews while guiding testing, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
Role demands 5–6 years in HV transmission, strong knowledge of components, fault analysis, and CMMS proficiency, plus a valid US driver’s license.
Commissioned in 1991, the Long Island Sound Cable is a 345 kV underground transmission system spanning 26.3 miles between Yonkers and Long Island. The system includes the South Transition Station and associated high-voltage infrastructure supporting reliable power delivery across the New York metropolitan area.
The High Voltage Transmission Lead Technician inspects, maintains, and repairs high-voltage transmission lines, towers, and related equipment to ensure safe and reliable system performance. This role coordinates emergency response and restoration efforts with NYPA, contractors, and field crews, while overseeing testing, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance to minimize outages and maintain system reliability.
This position offers a base pay rate of $70.34 per hour.

The High Voltage Transmission Lead Technician reports to the Plant Manager and coordinates with all plant and transmission personnel.
Physical requirements include standing and walking for extended periods, climbing stairs and fixed ladders within substations and transition stations, and working from elevated platforms, cable structures, and access ways at varying heights. Work may also require routine lifting of tools, equipment, and components up to 50 pounds.
Work is performed in high-voltage transmission and substation environments, including underground and below-grade facilities such as cable vaults, manholes, and duct systems associated with 345 kV infrastructure. Duties may involve proximity to energized equipment, including transformers, shunt reactors, and underground transmission systems, with strict adherence to electrical safety and switching procedures.
Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, confined spaces, noise, and industrial hazards including energized electrical equipment and oil-filled systems. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) may include arc-rated clothing, hard hats, safety glasses, voltage-rated gloves, dielectric footwear, hearing protection, and fall protection, with fit testing and site-specific safety training as required. Strict access control and smoking restrictions apply within all facilities.
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
The High Voltage Transmission Lead Technician primarily works a Monday-Friday day shift. Extended hours, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty may be required based on workload, maintenance schedules, outages, and operational needs.
