Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking a Substation Protection and Control Engineer to design high voltage electrical infrastructure in support of a sustainable circular economy for batteries. The role covers HV substations, protection, control, and coordination, with routine grid studies and interconnection work.

You will lead from concept through commissioning, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with civil/structural teams to ensure safe, reliable power systems for large-scale energy storage projects.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer license in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity.
• 10+ years of high voltage design experience, EPC environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of high voltage AC substations (69kV-345kV) and integration with transmission lines.
• Develop single-line diagrams, layouts, protection and control, relay coordination and grounding plans.
• Perform grid simulations and stability studies using PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD and related tools.
• Interface with utilities/ISO-RTOs for interconnection studies, permitting and compliance.
• Lead code reviews (NEC, IEEE, NESC, NFPA) and mentor junior engineers.
