Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for new and modified high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV) under a licensed PE. You will work with project teams through design and construction, adapting plans for budget, design factors, or client needs.

The role includes planning, calculations, field support, and client communications. The candidate should have an ABET-accredited degree and 3 years of substation experience (consulting preferred), strong

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 3 years substation experience (consulting preferred)
• ABET-accredited program in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technology with FE exam and 3 years substation experience (consulting preferred)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with MS Office and related tools
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Demonstrated leadership skills; able to work in a collaborative team environment
• EIT certification preferred

Responsabilités

• Develops design deliverables for high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV) from conceptual phase through construction
• Prepares substation design packages including arrangement, relaying, grounding studies, and lighting/security
• Develops calculations (insulation, power systems, cable sizing, conduit fill) and prepares BOMs
• Supports field inspections and client presentations; contributes to proposals
• Ensures deliverables follow QA/QC guidelines and project schedules
