Job summary

LHH is seeking an experienced Leave of Absence (LOA) Specialist in Downtown Los Angeles, CA. This on-site, full-time role requires managing high-volume LOA cases and ensuring regulatory compliance across FMLA, CFRA, and ADA while maintaining strong employee support and documentation.

Ideal candidates have healthcare or non-profit background, sharp analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of leave processes.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years managing end-to-end LOA cases in high-volume environments.
  • Strong knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, ADA and related regulations.
  • Experience in healthcare or non-profit sectors preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; detail oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high volume of leave cases from start to finish.
  • Administer and track leave requests in compliance with FMLA/CFRA/ADA.
  • Conduct eligibility reviews and determine qualifying leave status.
  • Coordinate ADA accommodations when applicable.

Pay Rate: $27.00 - $38.00 per hour DOE

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Leave of Absence (LOA) Specialist to manage high-volume leave cases from initiation through resolution. The ideal candidate will have a strong background administering complex leave programs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and providing exceptional employee support throughout the leave process.


Candidates with experience in the non-profit or healthcare industry are highly preferred. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent documentation practices, and outstanding follow-through.


Key Responsibilities


  • Manage a high volume of leave of absence cases from start to finish.

  • Administer and track leave requests in compliance with FMLA, CFRA, ADA, and other applicable federal and state regulations.

  • Conduct eligibility reviews and determine qualifying leave status.

  • Engage in the interactive process and coordinate ADA accommodation requests when applicable.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed case documentation, records, and correspondence.

  • Communicate with employees, managers, healthcare providers, and third-party administrators regarding leave status and requirements.

  • Monitor leave usage, return-to-work dates, and required documentation.

  • Ensure timely follow-up on outstanding paperwork and case milestones.

  • Research and resolve complex leave-related issues while maintaining compliance.

  • Provide guidance and education regarding leave policies, procedures, and employee rights.

  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Benefits, and management teams to ensure seamless administration of leave programs.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and medical information.


Qualifications


  • 3 to 5+ years of experience managing end-to-end Leave of Absence cases in a high-volume environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, CFRA, and related leave and accommodation regulations.

  • Experience handling complex employee relations and leave administration matters.

  • Prior experience in the healthcare or non-profit sector preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong documentation, organizational, and time-management abilities.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple cases while meeting deadlines.

  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive situations.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience supporting large employee populations.

  • Familiarity with workers' compensation and disability leave administration.

  • Experience partnering with legal, benefits, and HR teams on complex leave cases.
