Job summary

Scion Nonprofit Staffing seeks a Senior HR Generalist to act as a trusted partner to People & Culture leadership in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will handle day-to-day HR operations, advise on employee relations, performance management, compliance, and policy matters with discretion and integrity.

The role involves collaborating with department leaders, improving HR processes, and ensuring smooth operations across the organization in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

• Strong background in HR generalist functions including employee relations and HR operations.
• Working knowledge of California employment law and workplace policies.
• Ability to manage sensitive employee matters with discretion and confidentiality.
• Excellent communication, problem solving, and relationship-building with leadership.
• Nonprofit or mission-driven experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted operational partner to People & Culture leadership, managing day-to-day HR matters with independence and sound judgment.
• Support employee relations, performance management, workplace concerns, and sensitive employee matters with discretion and professionalism.
• Help maintain HR policies, procedures, and compliance with applicable California employment laws and regulations.
• Partner with department leaders to address staffing needs, employee engagement, retention, onboarding, and organizational priorities.
• Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems, reporting, and consistency across employee programs and operations.
• Collaborate with recruitment, learning and development, and volunteer operations teams while supporting special projects and organizational transitions.
