Job summary

The New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to lead HR functions, drive strategy, and implement systems in support of NYSNA’s priorities and values. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this senior leader will shape a positive, high-performing culture while ensuring efficient HR operations.

Qualifications

• Ten+ years of HR experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Significant experience managing HR in political, labor, or advocacy organizations.
• Extensive knowledge of employee relations, employment law, compensation, hiring, and organizational development.
• Experience managing employee relations in a unionized environment, including negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements.
• Ethics, judgment, reliability, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of HR programs and services that support staff and unions.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, compensation, benefits, compliance, and performance management.
• Ensure HR policies are compliant with laws and best practices; mitigate risk.
• Manage a small HR team and engage with staff unions.
• Develop and implement strategies for staff development and performance reviews.
• Coach managers on conducting effective reviews.
