Job summary

Join UCLA’s Office of Advanced Research Computing (OARC) as a Senior HPC Storage Engineer to design, deploy, and operate large-scale petabyte storage platforms for data-intensive research across campus, cloud, and federated HPC environments.

You will lead architecture, evaluation of emerging storage tech, and implement secure, reliable storage services while coordinating with researchers and partner institutions to advance national-scale research infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in large-scale storage environments with production services.
• Experience with petabyte-scale and federated storage architectures.
• Advanced knowledge of HPC, data science, and cyberinfrastructure for large workloads.
• Hands-on with Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, Ceph, BeeGFS, or similar platforms.
• Experience operating production storage systems, monitoring, backups, DR, and upgrades.
• Advanced Linux administration across InfiniBand, RoCE, Ethernet fabrics.
• Scripting and automation; familiarity with Ansible and Git.
• Identity integration with AD/LDAP/OIDC/SAML/Globus Auth.
• Ability to benchmark, document results, and communicate to exec audiences.
• Excellent communication, independence, and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, deployment, and operation of large-scale storage platforms.
• Evaluate new storage tech and optimize performance for data-intensive research.
• Develop secure, reliable services spanning campus, cloud, and federated HPC.
• Support iDLab initiative with national-scale data infrastructure.
• Coordinate with researchers, engineers, and partners to sustain services.
