Job summary

SYSTEM West Virginia University Health System is seeking a Coding Supervisor to lead hospital coding staff and support management in daily operations, ensuring accurate reimbursement and compliance across clinics and locations.

The role requires strong supervisory, auditing and education capabilities, with experience in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, MS-DRG, HCC, and APR-DRG coding concepts. Travel may be required in a multi-site system.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Current HIM/Coding Certification through AHIMA or AAPC.
• Associates degree or higher in Health Information Management or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises coding staff and assists management in daily department operations related to reimbursement, coding, abstracting, productivity, quality and education.
• Ensures coding backlogs and charge lag remain within acceptable levels.
• Acts as expert coding resource to coders, providers, revenue cycle, and specialty groups.
• Manages personnel actions including interviewing, hiring, coaching and performance evaluation in conjunction with management.
• Develops and maintains coding policies, procedures and training materials with management.
• Performs budgeting oversight and fiscal stewardship.
• Oversees internal and external audits for compliance with documentation, coding and billing guidelines.
• Collaborates with staff to resolve coding and billing issues.
