Job summary

North Dakota Department of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator III for the Dickinson District, Bowman Section, Bowman, ND. The role involves operating heavy equipment for highway and structure maintenance, installing and maintaining signs and guardrails, and performing routine road, building, and radio system maintenance.

You may work nights or weekends during emergencies and will maintain required paperwork.

Qualifications

• Requires two years work experience at the Equipment Operator II level.
• Or high school diploma or GED and three years of work experience with heavy equipment operations, and a class A drivers license with air brakes and a cargo tanker endorsement.
• Two years of college coursework in engineering, heavy equipment operation or maintenance may substitute for up to two years of the work experience requirement.
• Work on night shift may be required. Work on weekends, and holidays during emergency events. Will be at times required to report to work within 30 minutes during emergency or storm situations.
• Military MOS codes may substitute for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roadways, including snow and ice control/removal and keeping the roadway clear of hazards.
• Operate heavy equipment and perform maintenance on signs and guardrails.
• Perform building and ground maintenance and routine maintenance of roadway and radio system equipment.
• Complete routine paperwork (time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports).
• Serve as section decision maker when the supervisor is absent.
• Support a safe working environment for self and coworkers.
