Job summary

NBBJ is seeking a Senior Higher Education Campus Planner/Designer to lead transformative campus planning projects for top-tier colleges and universities. You will integrate design thinking with institutional strategy and data analytics, guiding institutions through long-range planning visions.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years in higher education planning, strong communication, and sketching skills. Hybrid work options are available, with travel 20–30% for workshops and assessments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or related field.
• 15+ years of experience in higher education planning or institutional strategy.
• Proven experience leading campus planning efforts for higher education institutions.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build consensus.
• Proficiency in analog or digital sketching skills.

Responsibilities

• Design – translate client vision into actionable spatial strategies through plans, diagrams and sketches.
• Conceive ideas at campus-wide to site-specific scales.
• Collaborate with campus planning team and cross practice colleagues.
• Advocate for sustainability, resilience, and equity in planning recommendations.
• Lead planning process from initial engagement to final delivery.
• Support business development through proposals and interviews.
• Stay abreast of higher education trends and evolving campus roles.
