Job summary

Okaloosa County School System seeks a skilled operator to drive and operate heavy trucks and equipment for loading, hauling and distributing materials, and for the transportation of equipment and construction and maintenance of infrastructure.

Responsibilities include supervising work crews in the absence of supervisors, performing inspections and preventive maintenance, preparing sites, assisting with traffic control, and carrying out related duties as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 4 years of progressive heavy equipment operation experience.
• Lead or supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of road maintenance and construction techniques preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise work crews in the absence of a foreman or as directed.
• Operate heavy trucks and equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, graders, dozers.
• Inspect and perform maintenance on trucks and equipment.
• Prepare sites for work and set up traffic controls.
• Read blueprints and plans; interpret codes and specifications.
• Perform physical labor for roadways, utilities, drainage projects.
• Perform related duties as required.
